Beware of Fingers Injuries

Children are born with an insatiable hunger to know the world around them.

Every child is curious with an imagination and wants to EXPLORE, EXPERIMENT, to take their world as they know it apart and put it back together again, in other words, to PLAY.

Playing is the most powerful way that children learn about their space and make play friends at their Day or Child Care facility. In children, fingers injuries are the result of accidents occurring at play or in the home, as when the finger gets caught in a door. In the United States, finger injuries account for approximately two-thirds of hand injuries in children. Children younger than two years suffered finger injuries mostly inside.

Parents should be aware that recovery from a serious finger injury may take months and require hand therapy. This may include hand exercises to improve movement and strength, heat and massage therapy, electrical nerve stimulation, splinting, traction, and special wrappings to control swelling.
